Tumults

December 31, 2006 at 11:26 pm | In Uncategorized | No Comments

The human fall from oneness is a sad story. One this day believes that miracles are no more. Karma has become commoplace in the culture of this nomenclature. Do you know what I mean?

In many lands far away even by cyber standards and distant through time, there lived many who were trained as heroes and ascended beings. But slowly the darkness spread like Tolkiens Towers and enveloped light to send through the U.S. Postal Service.

A letter came by mail today addressed to you. I will not reveal everything regarding the written words, though you deserve to know that you are the light. This letter reads now within you and if you read it in front of a mirror today you will know the sparkle in your eye to be the truth of this.

Affirm today in an easy and peaceful way the love you possess for yourself and the oneness…believe it and see it.

The web of life is a living metaphor like you, the light. Attraction and deep peace.

Breathe away and live balanced.

Thanks

Remember to Breathe!

December 30, 2006 at 6:31 pm | In BREATHE, Stress Release | No Comments

I was on the train the other day, along with a whole lot of people who looked like they had just gotten off of work (it was about 5:30 pm). No one was talking, and no one was making eye contact. Most just looked at the floor, or kept busy by attending to their hands or some other object on their person.

All of a sudden I felt like I couldn’t breathe! I tried to take a deep breath and I realized that I felt uncomfortable doing so. No one else was breathing deeply. What gave ME the right to take a deep breath? Who was I to live life fully, breathing in life-sustaining air that would travel to every cell of my body?

When I stopped that line of thought, I realized that I had picked up on a collective thought current that was subtly running through the group on the train. Most, if not all, were on automatic pilot, getting up early, going through their morning routine, catching the train, going through their usual workday, and then catching the train home. Same old, same old. Many had long since given up on their dreams, even though those dreams were still in the back on their minds beckoning them to step up, maybe even taunting them at this point. But they were now experts at making excuses for NOT living their dream.

Sitting snugly between two commuters, all of us bundled up in coats, scarves and sweaters to protect us from the winter weather, I dared to take a deep breath. My shoulders pushed against my companions until my lungs had their fill. The woman on my right looked at me. No matter what she was thinking, that breath felt so good I just had to take another one! For the next breath, I decided to go for a nice deep, long yawn. Again, the woman looked at me, and then something fantastic happened—she yawned, too!

Next thing I know it someone across from me yawned, then a man standing in the aisle who I don’t thing was even physically looking at me yawned! I even noticed some people taking a deep breath. To me, this was exhilarating! It felt like the entire train was taking a load off.

I don’t know what anyone else felt, and I can only speak for myself, but I felt so much lighter and a whole lot better than when I entered that train. Breathing is a necessity of life, something we do every day. Even so, there is an art to it, and when done consciously and intentionally, it becomes magic. It releases tension, soothes our mind and body, and it frees up our very soul.

By remembering to take a deep breath from time to time, and consciously allowing it to circulate to every cell in the body, your dreams may rise to the surface… and then ANYTHING is possible!

Turn And Face What Chases

December 28, 2006 at 9:34 pm | In Stress Release | No Comments

Oh how avoidance creates undo stress! To grab the will by the horns and face that which you have been avoiding is to claim your birthright and stand fully empowered. There is virtually nothing in this world that can create stress when we stand fully in our power.

To admit rather than deny, to love rather than scorn, to face the light of day and proclaim that no longer will victimhood be a part of this life is to stand fully empowered. Love is your birthright as is abundance. Stand firmly, be centered and grounded, remain in this body primarily and not even thought can shake you from the path you are on.

Have you ever had a dream where you were being chased by some unknown, but certainly nefarious entity? Did you search for places to hide? Did you run into dead-ends? Did the fear build and build until it was just too much to bear? Running on empty, fear flowing from every cell of your being, what if you just stopped and turned to face what chases? Did you notice that the object of terror stopped, too? And maybe it just looked at you, as you looked at it. And then it did something you never would have dreamed—it disappeared! Vanished! Poof! It released. And all you had to do was stop whatever it was YOU were doing and face it.
Stand now empowered my friends and know that you are assisted on this journey. We reach now across space and time and give you the congratulations and love you deserve for standing and taking your power back now.

Your path is your own to choose as you will. Turn and face what chases. When you align your heart and divine will, you are unshakable.

Maintaining Health and Harmony in the Modern World

December 24, 2006 at 9:09 pm | In Stress Release | 3 Comments

I’ll let you in on a little secret. It’s so secret that it’s obvious (a secrect is always safest from large-scale public attention when it is kept right in front of the public’s nose). And of course, like all truths, it is quite simple in concept and quite difficult in execution. Here, then, is the secret: In order to maintain health and harmony in this life, one must achieve a healthy balance of action and rest. Our modern world is structured around movement and action: hence, the popularity of “fast food.” Our modern world problem is not one of inaction, but of stressed-out humans who are out of balance and do not know the meaning, let alone the mechanism of rest and relaxation.

One thing we need to remember when faced with the stresses of this world is that anyone alive today, or anyone who has ever lived on this earth, has faced everyday living stress. WE ARE NOT ALONE IN THIS! As humans, we tend to think that we’re the only one going through a given situation, and that’s just not true. Everyone faces stress and feels the effects of having to act in a fast-paced manner. The only real differene between humans is HOW they react to the stress.

Let’s take a look at one person who is faced with a stressful situation. Let’s say this person reacts by tightening up, tensing all muscle groups (even one’s they didn’t eve know they had!), and they begin to scream and yell. Their blood pressure rises, they feel awful, they are angry, tense and they have a bad day for the rest of the day.

Now let’s go to another person in the same stressful situation as the first person, but instead of reacting with anger and knee-jerk assumptions, this second person listens, takes a deep breath, and steps back metaphorically from the situation. This person stops and takes a moment to gather all the thoughts and emotions that are swirling all around the situation. They see and feel that a knee-jerk reaction would only fuel the situation, so instead, they choose to breathe and wait. By doing this, they have a chance to look at the big picture, and not take it so personally. They ultimately decide that they do not wish to feel awful, angry, or tense, and they go on to have a great day!

So maintaining health and harmony is a matter of choice. It’s just that the first person might not realize his or her actions were a choice. Even knee-jerk reactions are a choice and it’s this type of crazed choice of action that has lead us into a society of fast-paced, fast food eating, action junkies.

Action is important. It is part of the balance of health and harmony. But it is healthy action, thoughful action, balanced action that is the key. In the case of the second person’s scenario, they took a moment to stop. That was an action! In stopping, they were able to gather and access the whole, and get the big picture. This, in turn, leads to relaxation and stress release.

The only way to fully access serenity is to let go. Start by letting go of control over a situation. You do this by stopping and stepping back, even if only for a moment. Within this moment of release, you may be able to grasp the big picture, and once that occurs, you will be truly free of the stress. Don’t worry if it doesn’t happen right away for you, just keep stopping and stepping back (in other words, stop talking, or yelling, and listen and watch instead). Let go of being “right” and just listen. Most of the time, the situation will resolve itself if just one person lets go of holding the negative energy.

You’ll know when you are in serenity because your sense of fulfilment will be great. The situation will feel complete and you will be able to turn your attention to other, happier things. Even if a stressful situation is not resolved, you can stop feeding its energy by simply deciding how you want to feel! If you don’t want to feel bad, then decide that you do want to feel good and happy, then act on feeling good and happy!

The choice is yours and it’s simple yet profound. You have the power to change the world—that is the gift of being human. Health and harmony is within you and you are holding the key.

Just Breathe . . .

December 22, 2006 at 11:06 pm | In BREATHE | 2 Comments

Being that we’re smack in the middle of the busiest time of year, we thought it would be nice to give you some relaxing, quick food-for-thought. On average a human takes 15 breaths per minute, or 21,600 breaths per day. That’s a lot of breathing! We’re professionals at it. Yet, so many of us are not breathing deeply enough during the times we need it the most, and that adds to our stress levels. Let’s take a moment right now to BREATHE.

Start by noticing how you were breathing before we brought up the subject. Take a deep breath, deeper than the last breath you took. Fill your lungs all the way down to the bottom, as if you were going to push it right down into your legs. See how far out your belly will go! Allow your shoulders to rise, and then fall with the exhalation. Sit in stature—your back will straighten and your shoulders will roll back when you sit in stature.

Imagine and pretend that with every breath you take you are nourishing your body; and with every exhalation you are cleansing and clearing your body. Let all the healing energy flow to you and all the stress flow down to the center of the earth. Ahhhhhh . . .

Scaling Life’s Mountains – By Michelle C. Ustaszeski

December 21, 2006 at 10:12 pm | In Articles | No Comments

It is the simple things in life that please me. But it hasn’t always been that way. There was a time in my life when everything seemed dark. It was a time when my children were the only source of light in my life. I was disappointed in myself for descending so deeply into such an obscure frame of mind and that increasing self-resentment only made each day all the more dismal. I took refuge in the stories that I wrote, escaping my own reality by creating new ones and falling to sleep as a character with a life far better than my own. I was trapped between the boundaries that I created for myself, allowing no other feelings but self-pity and disappointment to reside and freely cultivate.

It may sound quite dramatic to those who are fortunate enough to have never experienced such inner despair. Unfortunately, most people can relate to how difficult it can be to climb over the peak of depression, especially if they have been dwelling at the foot of the mountain for some time now. But with each minute, each hour and each day that we remain still, we have a greater tendency to get comfortable within those boundaries. The mountain becomes a part of the scenery that we soon fail to see and the journey we were meant to travel in order to reach our destiny becomes postponed, or worse yet, never conquered.

Life began to change for me after I realized that it was not my environment that controlled me, but it was I who controlled my environment. It was I who dimmed the lights in my own world and it was I who needed to slowly turn them back on. It was during that journey when I took a second look at my life, realizing that my children needed me. They deserved a mother who would provide light in their own times of darkness, guiding them into a better life than I had allowed for myself during those times of hopelessness. They deserved a mother who would conquer and move mountains in order to share with them the wisdom that I would obtain for the day when they would have to set out on their own journeys. They would learn that happiness is a gift that we give to ourselves and that regardless of how lost we feel at times, continuous movement in faith will eventually brink us to our peak.

It was at this time when I began finding the good in all things that I had subconsciously ignored. I began to notice everything that I overlooked outside of myself due to my previous self-indulgence with inner wretchedness. I found that it was the simple negatives in life that would control me and that the simple positives would, in fact, set me free. Just as I would have probed for and willingly allowed any negative to govern me, I began my search for each and every positive that would eventually set me free. I began taking one step at a time, falling on occasion, but getting right back up with my goal in mind as it became more visible with each step. Using my own internal compass and by creating my very own paths, I conquered feat after feat until I eventually mastered the art of scaling.

We deal with disappointing and depressing experiences each day of our lives. Rest assured that these difficult times are your opportunity to grow and to learn more advanced strategies in order scale your next mountain more quickly. These difficult times provide you with experience and knowledge that you can pass on to your children and to the world. They bestow upon you wisdom that, when looking back, will cause you to proudly stand in awe at how far you have traveled. Only through difficulty can you rest at the peak, look out over the horizon that surrounds you, and rejoice beyond today’s imagination at how beautiful life really is and how lucky we truly are.

Good Fats versus Bad Fats

December 20, 2006 at 4:11 am | In Journal Entry | No Comments

With the holidays in full swing, and all the great meals surrounding us at this time, we thought it would be relevent to give you some tips about fats—good vs bad—to relieve any anxiety you might have about the foods you are eating. So many of us are under the impression that all fat is bad, but this is not the truth!

For years, we’ve been told that to lose weight, you should have a low calorie, low fat diet. Low-fat foods have been proclaimed to help prevent problems from heart disease to cancer. The truth is: little research can be cited to support these facts. The key isn’t to eat less fats, it’s to eat good fats. But how do we know which fats are bad and which are good? Here’s the skinny on the different types of fats.

Good Fats
Monounsaturated Fats. These are the best fats for you. Replacing saturated fats with monounsaturated fats has been shown to lower bad cholesterol without lowering good cholesterol. You can find these helpful fats in most nuts, canola, olive, and sesame oil, and in avocados.

Polyunstaurated Fats. These fats are still unsaturated, but not as good for you as monounsaturated fats. While they have been shown to lower bad cholesterol, they also tend to lower good cholesterol at the same time. These fats can be found in mayonnaise, walnuts, corn and soybean oil, and in salad dressings.

Omega 3 Fatty Acids. These are a special type of polyunsaturated fat found in high fat fish and other nuts. They not only have anti-inflammatory effects; they have also been shown to lower triglyceride levels and help prevent you from dying of a heart attack. You will also find these fats in seeds and cod liver oil. Always eat these fats cold; unless it’s a fish, never heat omega 3s. This type of fat will help you to lose weight!
Bad Fats
Trans Fats. These fats, also known as hydrogenated or partially-hydrogenated fats, are man made fats. DO NOT EAT ANYTHING WITH THIS TYPE OF FAT! These were created to prolong shelf life of some foods. When shopping for packaged food, be sure to check the ingredients list, not just proclamations on the box. When something says it has “no trans fat” that actually means it has less that .4 grams.

Saturated Fats. Even though they are natural fats, saturated fats have been linked to higher levels of bad cholesterol and certain types of cancer. Foods that contain saturated fat include: high fat meat and poultry, milk products, cheese and some oils. Check labels; companies are required to tell you how much saturated fat is in a product. Eat in moderation.

Fats aren’t all bad; they make food taste better, have a better texture, and can help us absorb certain vitamins. So if you’re trying to cut fat out of your diet, be sure to be selective. Choosing the right fats will not only help you lose weight, it can prevent certain diseases and cancers.
